Megan started the violin at the age of three and continued her study of classical violin at the Eastman School of Music where she graduated with a BA in Violin Performance and Music Education in 2003. Since then she studied Suzuki Pedagogy with Anastasia Jempelis, one of the first violin teachers to teach Suzuki in the United States. Megan also spent most of her life playing fiddle music from Irish, American, and French Canadian traditions. In addition to studying Beethoven and Mozart, she spent long hours listening to the fiddle styles of Ti-Jean Carignon, Rodney Miller, and Liz Carroll. Eventually Megan developed her own unique style, uniting her classical technique with fast, driving fiddle tunes. Many of the tunes she plays are traditional favorites but she has also written and frequently performs an array of her own tunes. You can hear Megan play traditional fiddle music with her band Contranella at concerts and contradances in New York, Maryland, and all over the Northeast. She also performs traditional Jewish music with the The Coalhouse Klezmer Band and occasionally performs with the medieval music group Istanpitta. Megan teaches private lessons on the violin and fiddle in Baltimore, MD. Please contact her for more information. |
