Winter Thoughts

Icicles cluster round gutters and downspouts
bills congregate on my dining table
announce visually
no undone task slinks into obscurity
but embarassingly proclaims
I lead a cluttered life.

Yet icicles memorialize not gutters unswept
but eager anticipation of spring's destined thaw.
The groaning table celebrates
not the spree of unpaid bills
but the most alloyed joy of tax time
springing to the unprepared mind.
