Poetry by Kelly Beller
Terpsichore
I poemed you once as we danced
that most archaic form
We sat, we ate, we drank and moved
we separated, we closed, we moaned and sighed
And you, the detached were really there
and I, the involved, was not.
I poemed you once as we danced
the closer, farther, in or out
the hesitancy, banter, idle chaff
all to capture, all to freeze
your human spontaneity
upon a lifeless page
I poemed you once, an evening bright
two beings danced, agreed that night
commitment? No. Possession? No!
and yet, I tell you plain
You made me sing. I came undumb -
and so, I give you thanks.
